Overview

In the automotive industry, technicians often struggle to efficiently track their work progress and earnings. Traditionally, they rely on manual methods such as pen and paper to record completed jobs and reconcile their earnings with the Dealer Management System (DMS) on payday. This outdated approach creates challenges, as technicians lack real-time insight into their weekly earnings, bonus goals, and overall productivity.

Recognizing this need, we developed a custom-built mobile application designed to help technicians easily manage, track, and forecast their earnings, providing a streamlined solution for both technicians and dealerships.

The Challenge

Automotive technicians working at dealerships face a lack of transparency when it comes to tracking their weekly pay and progress toward bonuses. They often don’t know how far they are from reaching bonus goals or whether they have surpassed them. Without a centralized system for tracking earnings and productivity, both technicians and dealerships struggle with inconsistent records and lack of clear performance metrics.

The Solution

We built a user-centric mobile application that empowers technicians by providing real-time data on their earnings, bonuses, and overall productivity. This app revolutionizes how technicians manage their finances and allows dealerships to track their workforce’s performance more efficiently. Key features of the app include:

Earnings Management & Forecasting

Technicians can enter and track their earnings based on completed work, monitor their progress toward bonus levels, and forecast potential future earnings. This feature provides technicians with clear visibility into their financial standing at any point in time.

Incentive Tracking & Bonus Progress

The app displays a real-time “personal stock ticker” that shows technicians their current earnings and progress toward bonus pay. This feature motivates technicians by showing them how close they are to reaching their goals.

Gravy Score & Promotions

The app calculates a “gravy score,” based on cumulative earnings, which serves as a performance indicator. Technicians can leverage this score to seek promotions or new job opportunities within the automotive industry.

Productivity Tracking & Leaderboards

The dealership benefits from a built-in productivity tracking system, allowing managers to monitor technician performance. A national leaderboard adds a gamified element to the system, where technicians can see how they rank against their peers based on their productivity.

Tech Stack

Our development team utilized advanced technologies to ensure that the app is fast, scalable, and user-friendly. By leveraging cloud-based services, we were able to build a robust platform that delivers real-time data processing and performance tracking. Key components of the tech stack include:

  • AWS Route53
  • CloudFront
  • Elastic Cloud Computing (EC2)
  • Relational Database Service (RDS)
  • Simple Storage Service (S3)
  • Simple Queue Service (SQS)
  • Elastic Beanstalk Services (EBS)

Conclusion

The custom mobile app we developed has transformed the way automotive technicians manage their earnings and productivity. By providing a real-time, data-driven solution, technicians can track their financial progress, work toward bonuses, and make informed decisions about their careers. Meanwhile, dealerships gain valuable insights into technician performance through productivity tracking and national leaderboards.

This innovative app exemplifies how technology can streamline traditionally manual processes, enhance transparency, and ultimately empower technicians to maximize their earnings and productivity in the automotive industry.
